bksb’s global expansion continues

The growing need for English language skills in developing countries means the bksb products are in higher demand than ever.  In particular, India, Australia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates are increasingly committed to using English as a means to growing overseas trade and, in turn, their respective economies.

Attending the three-day World DIDAC exhibition in New Delhi gave members of the team a chance to showcase the bksb products to a new audience including tutors, students, providers and developers.

The bksb exhibition stand was visited by Mrs Sudha Pillai, Member Secretary of Planning Commission for the Government of India, who was impressed by the positive impact bksb products could have on learners’ skills.

bksb director Harvinder Atwal explained: “The exhibition was hugely successful for us.  It provided a wonderful opportunity to meet with educationalists from across India and gain a real understanding of how important English language skills are to students from all backgrounds, as well as how improving their skills can, in turn, improve their futures.

“We look forward to continuing to build links in India – developing the bksb solution to truly meet the needs of educationalists and students alike.”

Staff also attended the second BETT Middle East Show at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre in UAE.  It was the second time bksb supported the event; welcoming hundreds of teachers and education ministers from in and around the Middle East to their exhibition stand.

The bksb team was visited by Robyn Nutt – the company’s representative from Australia – who spent a week working with colleagues, mapping all bksb assessments to the Australian Core Skills Framework.  She even found time for a quick visit to the world-famous Major Oak in Sherwood Forest, in between strengthening business links with key personnel.

Finally, a delegation from Northlink College in Cape Town, South Africa spent two days with bksb finalising an agreement to supply the online product across South Africa.

Get set for functional skills

Are you ready for functional skills?  Let bksb support you all the way.

Supporting you for functional skills

In September 2012, key skills will be replaced by functional skills.   Whether you have embraced functional skills since their inception in 2010, or are still doing key skills and are yet to plan for the switchover, bksb is committed to supporting you in adopting a successful functional skills strategy.

Understanding the basics

Let’s start with the basics.  To understand (or to refresh on) the fundamentals of functional skills, follow this link to our simple guide: http://bit.ly/simple_guide_to_functional_skills

A whole-organisation approach to functional skills: 12 point plan

As functional skills evolves, it is important to have in place an organisational strategy for how to manage its implementation and development.  This plan is intended to give you an outline structure to put into place an organisation-wide approach to functional skills.  However, as functional skills will be delivered in such a wide range of education settings, it is difficult to devise a ‘one system fits all’ approach.  As such, simply ignore any of the points which have no relevance to your organisation and focus on those that do.

This presentation is delivered by Karen Peck, Functional Skills Consultant at Vision West Notts.  Karen has worked extensively with Functional Skills providers and is part of a consultation group advising Government on Functional Skills strategy.  You can view it here: http://bit.ly/fssimple
